On February 25, I started an experiment on my second profile:
Comment and subscribe to 10 newsletters per day
Post a note every weekday
The goal was to see if anybody would subscribe to my second newsletter,
.Well, the results have been insane. Here’s the data:
I’ve commented on 185 newsletters
52 of those people subscribed to my second newsletter
139 people followed me
My second newsletter grew by 307 subscribers
14 publications started recommending
Now, full disclosure, I had 143 people subscribe because this newsletter was recommending it. So, that skews the numbers, more or less, to 150 new subscribers in one month from daily note posting and commenting.
That’s still really darn good, y’all.
Join Me For A 7-Day Commenting Challenge
Last month, I hosted my first ‘50 In 7’ Challenge for paid subscribers. The goal was to try and get 50 new subscribers in 7 days by commenting on 10 posts per day.
We had 25 or so people join us for it!
One person wrote they got 25 new “followers” from doing a “light” version of the challenge where they only commented on 5 posts per day.
Another person got 6 subscribers in the first day!
Another got a paid subscriber pretty much immediately!!
We also had a fun group call in the middle of the program, and we’ll do another one for the upcoming one on April 8th.

This no doubt led to new subscribers finding my newsletter.
Let me tell you a secret…. Notes are the way to grow QUICKLY on Substack.

Looks like I'm going to need to get over my fear of writing comments...
What this advice amounts to is "give a little to get a little." It sounds so obvious ... and I hadn't even considered it. Thank you.
